How to design a business card using Adobe Photoshop
Versions 5, 6, 7, CS, CS2, CS3, CS4
This will help guide you through the process of designing your business card in Photoshop as well as providing a helpful templates to get you started.
Step One
Download this pre-formatted template and open it in Photoshop:
PSD Template here : Right click it
Right Click > Save As
90 mm x 55 mm Standard Business Card Template
Step Two
Check that you have guides turned on. You should see lines around the outside of your template.
View > Show > Guides.
Drag 4 guides from the rulers on the left and the top of your photoshop screen and place them over our template where shown. (This way you can turn off the layer we have provided showing the guide positions)

The outermost lines are called cut lines. The cut lines show where your
design will be cut away from the much larger sheet of paper it was printed
on. This ensures colour all the way to the very edge of your cards. This
method is called full bleed.
TIP:- Your
background colours/design MUST extend past the cut lines!
The innermost lines are called the safety lines. Anything outside these lines could be cut off. Although our cutters are very accurate, staying inside of this area ensures that important text/graphics won't be chopped off. It also helps your design to be more readable. Keep all your non-background text, logos, pictures, etc. inside of these lines.
TIP:- Check that your design is in CMYK colour mode and at 300dpi or 400
dpi resolution.
Check like this ... Image > Mode > CMYK
Image > Image Size > Resolution: 300 pixels/inch
Step Three
Now you are ready to begin designing your card.
Step Four
Delete all of our redundant help layers before you save the file
Step Five
Save it as a TIFF file, PSD or print it to Adobe distiller to create a pdf
TIP:- If you save to a pdf, make sure you have included any fonts you
need to make it look right
TIP:- Remember if you wish to have printing on the back it is easier for
the printer if files are in one document on seperate pages.
